“LET’S HAVE A CUCKOO ALE CEILIDH FOR OUR WEDDING!” Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. The Cuckoo Ale Band are pleased to provide the following helpful hints if you are thinking of having a ceilidh as part of your celebrations. The Cuckoo Ale Band are a four piece band, including resident caller, who have been playing in and around the area for many years. Couples who choose to have a ceilidh at their wedding do so because they have been to ceilidhs and barn dances and know just how much fun they can be. Ceilidhs at weddings can be a great fun way to end the celebrations, however like everything else for the special day, careful planning and preparations prior to the event will ensure that the day concludes with wonderful memories for everyone. So, remember it’s your big day, and your guests will take their lead from you. If you don’t know what a longways set is or how to do-si-do……are you sure you really want a Cuckoo Ale Ceilidh? THE CUCKOO ALE BAND WEDDING CEILIDH HELPFUL HINTS 1. WHAT TO WEAR Ceilidh dancing is energetic and involves lots of movement. Will the bride be able to dance in her dress? Dress makers will often provide loops, buttons and ribbons so trains can be adjusted….after all no one wants to stand on the dress and be responsible for the consequences! Shoes: Stiletto heels and backless shoes are definitely unsafe for ceilidh dancing. The bride may need to change into something more appropriate and guests need to know what the entertainment is. A simple statement on the invitations advising guests that “the reception will be followed by a ceilidh, so bring your dancing shoes” will help to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe time. For the men: Morning suits, ties and shiny shoes may also not be too comfortable. Again advising guests that changing into more casual attire is acceptable often encourages a more fun evening for all.
